Hatching of the Nest....

When my late husband, Richard Estes, and I moved into our home, the spacious garage presented an ideal location for an art studio and meeting place that we both had always dreamed of. Richard believed that creative thought is the only thing that will save this world. It was his vision to create a sense of community in our area, by offering a nurturing space in which we could gather and allow creativity and spiritual energy to flourish.

With Richard's passing in February 2009 I decided to breathe new life into the vision that Richard and I had.

In honor of our vision, in the Fall of 2009 I invited two other artists to help initiate the space by offering a diverse selection of art classes and personal exploration workshops. As with most businesses the first year was a time of learning, however the space was used by many people and fun creative energy was abundant.

This year the two artists that will be working with me are Tracy Vandermay and Jody McNamara. What a treat to have these two amazing women standing beside me, promoting Richard's dream. It is our wish to invite people to experience the wealth of talent at the studio as they explore the magical power of the creative spirit. Come "do art", smile, dance, and feel the joy that is shared when artists come together to create.

Resident Artists

Visual Journaling 2      Instructor: Sherri Angie       $60

This class is designed for students who have taken Visual Journaling 1. We will continue our experimentation with texture, color, images, words and techniques that will assist us in developing beautiful journal pages. Supply fee: $20

Introduction to Needle Felting      Instructor: Tracy Vandermay      $25

Using un-spun wool or roving and a special barbed needle we will be 'sculpting' with wool, a small vegetable, fruit, tiny animals, or imaginary creatures. You are only limited by imagination and practice.

Layered Shrines      Instructor: Jody McNamara      $50

Personal and found imagery and objects come together in a layered and enclosed shrine. Texture, collage, decorative papers and assemblage transform a kraft pencil box into a structure with individual spaces for photos, images, clip art and ephemera. Progressive 3-D layering makes elements pop and creates a special space for small, treasured items. Supply list will be provided with confirmation letter.

Bead Crochet      Instructor: Tracy Vandermay      $35

The easiest way to learn bead crochet is by stringing a pattern of three different colors of seed beads on the cotton fiber. This is a fun & portable project that can result in a variety of beautiful treasures. This technique is well suited to bracelets, necklaces, eye glass chains, or straps for small purses. Supply fee:   $20

Magic Papers      Instructor:Sherri Angie      $35

You won’t believe that the paper you make all begins as a paper bag. Using a variety of techniques, paints and additives, you will create beautiful textured, shimmering paper with layered effects. Using a paper bag you will also create a whimsical waxed standing paper doll that you will adore.

Button Bracelet      Instructor: Tracy Vandermay      $35

We can use two or four-hole buttons anywhere from nickel to quarter size. Using two sizes of seed beads a peyote bezel will be formed to encase the button. Approximately five components will connect to make an amazing bracelet. Supply fee: $15

Come explore the deep understanding that can come from working in a Visual Journal. We will experiment with fun materials and techniques as you develop your own exciting journal pages. Supply fee: $20

Layered Canvas Collage      Instructor: Sherri Angie       $50

You will create beautiful papers using a variety of exciting techniques that will then be layered onto a painted canvas. By the end of this class you’ll have an amazing multi-layer master piece. All materials are provided for this fun, fast-paced class.

Surface Explorations      Instructor: Jody McNamara       $50

Take your paper and mixed media projects to the next level with a plethora of surface techniques using a variety of mediums. Stencils, textures, gel mediums, pastes, resists, acrylic, stamps, watercolor & ink sprays will be used to make a sampler of techniques that will round out your crafting and mixed media toolbox. Jazz up your ATC’s, journals, altered art, and anything in-between. You will get a little messy so an apron is a must. Supply list wil be provided with class confirmation. Supply fee: $5

Beaded Embroidered Lapel Pin      Instructor: Tracy Vandermay       $20

Basic beginning of bead embroidery techniques will be demonstrated. You will use the skills to complete a miniature wearable work of art. This project is appropriate for all skill levels. Supply fee: $15

CD/DVD Memorabilia Book      Instructor: Jody McNamara       $20

This elegant pocket book will hold music and photo CD’s or DVD’s, as well as memorabilia. Easy to construct with a hard cover and simple binding, you will create a book with several pockets, pages and an embellished cover to fit any theme or occasion. A great presentation for CD and DVD’s you are giving as gifts or to keep for yourself. Supply fee: $10

Guest Artists

Hand Made Funky Journals Instructor:       Marilynn Dondero-Rich      $50

You will learn to construct a sewn journal starting with a recycled book.  We will use fabric and paper to cover your book and then learn tohand sew signatures into the book as well as place pockets to hold extra things that you may want to include as part of your journal. Supply list will be provided with class confirmation.

Prayer Flags Instructor:      MaryAnn Ready      $45

The thought behind prayer flags is that the wind will carry the intentions of the writings or imagery on the flags out into the world to benefit all living beings. In this class we will create a set of prayer flags infused with our own hopes and wishes. A little bit of painting, a little collage, doodles and a bit of hand sewing and stitching will complete your pieces. Embellish your flags with imagery and objects that will inspire peace and happiness for both you and your surroundings. Supply list will be provided with class confirmation

Poetry Chairs Instructor:      MaryAnn Ready      $50

Transform a plain little chair now sitting in the extra bedroom or garage into a decorative and pleasing chair for your studio, office or guest bedroom.   You say you don’t have a plain little chair?   Well, go to a local thrift store and find one!   Then bring it and some embellishments to class for a fun, bright transformational day. Supply list will be provided with class confirmation.

Spirit Dolls      Instructor: Marilynn Dondero-Rich      $40

Let your inner child come out to play and your creative spirit soar.  Yes, even as adults we need to let the child come out to play.  It opens up many possibilities that we are not even aware of.  You might find that you will be naming your created doll and a story will arise.  Body of small doll is sewn for you to stuff, put a face on and dress.  You will also get to create your own hair style for your new friend. Supply list will be provided with class confirmation.
